The Innocents Abroad is a humorous travelogue written at a time when travel for pleasure was still somewhat of a novelty. Written by Mark Twain it was one of his best selling works at the time and makes use of his trademark sense of humor. Twain decides to take part in what he calls a great pleasure cruise. It is billed as an enviable adventure through Europe and to the Holy Land and is available only to those lucky enough to sign up and receive a spot. Twain soon finds that it is a study in human behavior, and he wastes no time in regaling us with those stories. His accounts of each region's attractions are both educational and enlightening, with themes typical of his writings, such as travel and humor.
